As part of the Careers program at The Portsmouth Academy, we’ve been holding Business Breakfast Meetings to bring together TPA students and local businesses. This initiative is inspiring curiosity in TPA students to consider careers in various fields of work which they may not have been aware of before.
These small group meetings follow a format where students ask a visitor a series of questions to try and guess the visitor’s job, with the visitor only answering yes or no. Once the job has been revealed, the students and the visitors engage in a discussion where students have the opportunity to ask further questions.
Students are hearing first hand from local business professionals about their route into their line of work and the skills and knowledge required to be successful in their fields. So far, this academic year, we’ve welcomed representatives from:
University of Portsmouth
Specsavers
Wheeler and Lai Chartered Surveyors
PMC Construction and Vivid Homes
Lightening safety Systems and LandSec/GWQ
Our students have really been enjoying the breakfast meetings and have made the most of their opportunity to speak to the visitors and we're delighted to have received some really positive feedback about our students as well. After his visit, Dave Green, of Lightening safety Systems said:
Every one of the students was a fabulous credit to the school and I am convinced everyone will be a future leader and or mover and shaker! Thank you for the opportunity to be involved, I will never forget today and I don’t think Georgina will either.
