Made in Portsmouth competition launches and welcomes pupils from The Portsmouth Academy

March 11, 2024 04:08pm

A new competition designed to encourage young people from across the area to reimagine their local community and voice their ideas has launched, and students from The Portsmouth Academy were there for the first event.

The 'Made in Portsmouth' competition is an established cross-school competition funded by Landsec and held at Gunwharf Quays shopping centre.

It aims to give local students the chance to pitch their ideas in a 'Dragons Den' style pitch held in management suits at the centre.

Pupils worked on a brief that was delivered to them at the beginning of the day, where they were set a challenge to reimagine a vacant space in the centre to best serve the Portsmouth community.

The workshops throughout the competition will focus on placemaking, community and customer insights, and environmental sustainability.

Those from The Portsmouth Academy in attendance learned all they need to know about taking an idea from its first draft, to its design, pitch presentation, and judging. They will build on their ideas as a team in the coming weeks.

If our team makes it to the final and wins, they will bring back to school a trophy for the school. Good luck, team!
