Congratulations to the wonderful Miss Piper, who has been nominated by Stephen Morgan, MP, for the Jamie Oliver Good School Food Award!
The Good School Food Awards celebrate individuals working in schools who go the extra mile every day to ensure children and young people have access to delicious and healthy meals at school. Nominees in Miss Piper's category, Food Educator of the Year, are recognised for their exceptional efforts in teaching the essential skills that will enable their students to lead a happy, healthy life.
Many students and parents will know Miss Piper as Head of Year 7 but did you know she is also TPA's Curriculum Leader for Food and Nutrition? Before becoming a teacher and sharing her expertise with students, Miss Piper spent many years running her own restaurants. She cites Julia Child, American chef, author, and televison personality as one of her inspirations.
In his nomination, Mr Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South said:
Miss Piper is an exceptional Food & Nutrition Studies teacher at TPA, whose passion and creativity in the classroom inspire students to develop a love for cooking and healthy eating. She consistently goes above and beyond, making lessons both fun and engaging. Through hands-on activities like making stir fry and spaghetti bolognese, she brings food education to life, encouraging students to experiment and try new recipes at home.
What sets Miss Piper apart is her ability to connect with students through her personal experiences as a former chef. Her stories and insights not only inspire students but also give them a deeper understanding of food beyond the classroom. Students have shared how she motivates them to cook more often at home, fostering a sense of confidence in the kitchen.
Her impact is felt school-wide, as students proudly share what they've learned in her lessons. Miss Piper's approach to food education doesn’t just teach cooking skills; it empowers students to make healthier, more informed choices in their everyday lives.
Her enthusiasm, dedication, and creativity make her a truly deserving candidate for The Good School Food Awards.
Here's Miss Piper's reaction to being nominated:
I was very touched to be informed that Mr Morgan had nominated me for the Jamie Oliver Good School Food Award. I enjoyed meeting him and inviting him into our teaching space here at TPA. I feel very fortunate to teach a subject that I am so passionate about. More importantly, I feel very strongly about our children’s health and the direct link between wealth and health that is becoming all the more apparent in our current economic climate. I really believe that with knowledge of food and a bit of planning you can eat healthily, even on a budget.
All of us at TPA are absolutely delighted that Miss Piper has been recognised for her dedication and commitment to educating young people about food and nutrition. We hope you'll join us in congratulating her on this well deserved nomination!
