The Portsmouth Academy celebrate National Careers Week with visits from local organisations and an inspiring talk

March 16, 2026 10:28am

We had a fantastic time celebrating National Careers Week, with several local organisations and colleges coming in to engage with our students.

City of Portsmouth College and HTP Apprenticeship College came in to advise on options for when our students leave us, including subjects they can go on and study.

Meanwhile, we had representatives from Hair Ott, AFC Portchester and Bauer Media visit, who all provided fascinating insight and advice on how to break into their industries.

Mrs S Westbrook, Careers Advisor at The Portsmouth Academy, was incredibly grateful to all visitors who gave up their time to speak to our students.

“National Careers Week was such a huge success, and I’d like to thank all our guests for their time. The advice and guidance they all gave to the students has been so valuable

“The opportunity to gain experience in industry continues to be a huge hit for students at The Portsmouth Academy and these development opportunities provide a great platform for them to aspire and achieve”

Bryn Furber, Head of Academy Development and Youth Liaison Officer at AFC Portchester, ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ visiting The Portsmouth Academy.

“The engagement and commitment from The Portsmouth Academy’s students was fantastic.

“They battled through the wind and rain; not only producing some quality football but some great moments of teamwork and perseverance too. We’re looking forward to visiting again soon”.

We were also fortunate enough to be visited by local marketing expert Terence Carvalho, who gave an inspiring talk and took questions from our students on how to gain experience.

Terence was particularly impressed with the student’s curiosity about the voluntary work he does:

“I really enjoyed my careers talk at The Portsmouth Academy. It was interesting with the questions I got about volunteering in the community and how the students felt it could help future job prospects

“I’m looking forward to supporting The Portsmouth Academy in the future”

Here at The Portsmouth Academy, we take pride in supporting young people fulfil their career aspirations, helping them transition into adulthood.
