Students from The Portsmouth Academy recently joined other schools from across the city for a competition that put their teamwork, presentation, creativity, and leadership skills to the test.

A talented group of 13 Year 10 pupils were brilliant representatives for the school at the Orwell Youth Competition at the University of Portsmouth.

For the competition, they had to create their own podcast on the theme of 'Home', followed by a Q&A with George Orwell's son.

On the Orwell Youth Prize website, it promotes the competition by saying: "What does home mean to you? A physical space? A person? A memory? A town? A country? Our planet? A dream? At a time when our idea of home seems under pressure, from the cost-of-living crisis and the housing crisis to the plight of refugees and the climate crisis, we want you to write about what home means to you."

This year, the prize was open to all secondary school students, including Year 7s. Its aim is to support the next generation of socially engaged young writers and thinkers from across the UK through our prize, resources, workshops, and projects.

Well done to our students for being superb representatives of our school. It is brilliant to see everyone interacting and engaging with other young people from across the community, especially in friendly competitions like this.
