On Tuesday, 27 Year 8 students had the opportunity to visit Bletchley Park.

We had a guided tour where we were able to see the mansion, some of the huts the codebreakers worked in, some of the vehicles that were used to transfer messages to and from different sites and learnt about what it would have been like to work at Bletchley Park during the war.  The students impressed us with their knowledge and answered lots of questions incredibly well!

After this we had some free time, in which we visited 2 of the museums.  The first had examples of the offices that people would have worked in and looked at examples of some of the data involved.  The second had lots of different examples of Enigma machines and a great sculpture of Alan Turing - lots of the students took the opportunity to get a picture next to the great man!

We finished the trip with an excellent workshop on codebreaking.  Again, the students did themselves proud with their knowledge of different strategies and techniques in finding the most efficient way to crack codes.  They were given a special treat at the end where they had the opportunity to try a real-life Enigma machine, and we learnt the machine being used was the one used by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Imitation Games!

All in all, it was a great trip, every single student was an absolute credit to the school!
